Warm hugs to lovely Emily, for nominating me! Her blog, Sims 3 Stories by Em, is home to the wonderful Holland story with lots of complex characters all held together by the awesome Dr. Holland. You’ll also find her sim versions of “the Little Ponies” and “Quantum Leap” with a certain Sam Beckett…

What is the Sunshine Blogger Award?
The Sunshine Blogger Award is given to creative, positive, inspiring bloggers who spread sunshine to the blogging community.

The Rules:
– In a blog post, thank the person who nominated you and link back to their blog.
– Answer the 11 questions sent by the person who nominated you.
– Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions.
– List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or your blog.

Here goes, Em! The answers to your questions:

  1. If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?

Get it done, don’t hesitate! And send your stuff to an editor before someone else does!

  1. What is the first book that made you cry?

It must have been Black Beauty by Anna Sewell. I still cry when I read it, or when I watch the movie. But I’m very easily moved.

  1. What’s the most difficult thing about writing characters from the opposite sex?

I think it’s fun, but I don’t think it’s particularly difficult. Being married to a military, having a teen son and being a High School Teacher, I’m surrounded by typical male behavior 24/7…

  1. Does writing energize or exhaust you?

Energize. I often sit up writing the whole night, getting back to bed for a couple of hours sleep only.

  1. A day at the beach or a day in the mountains? Which one and why?

A day at the beach, because I love the sea! I’m surrounded by Europe’s highest mountains and I’m in awe every day just looking out my window.

  1. What do you think makes a good character?

Depth. Feelings. And getting in something you can relate to, not picturing some flawless Mary-Sue!

  1. How important is the reader’s reaction to your plot and character development?

It’s always good for your ego to get nice feedback. You don’t only write to please yourself, you want others to enjoy it too!

  1. Is there a SimLit Blog you absolutely must recommend? Why?

There are so many good ones I can’t single out just one.

  1. Have you ever written a scene that was completely out of your comfort zone?

Yup. But you get drawn into it and suddenly you don’t think it’s uncomfortable anymore. But some things I’ve written are not published on my blog. I’m a teacher after all, and God forbid my students happen to read something out of their comfort zone!

  1. Do you think you could ever hand write a whole entire story in this day and age?

Oh, yes. I write at the beach. In my car waiting for my kids. At the doctors. And when I get home to my computer or my laptop, I write it down again. I always have one of them leather-bound little notebooks in my bag, and I’ve got a few of them filled with notes, quotes and pages upon pages of stories.

  1. Who’s your favorite character out of all your stories and why?

I would say Derek. Maybe because when I created him he turned out to be a look-alike for one of my ex-boyfriends – the kind your mom forbids you to see, but you can’t stay away from…

I nominate these fantastic blogs, knowing some of them have already been nominated:

Here are my questions:

  1. Why did you start writing?
  2. Where do you write your stories?
  3. Do you write the story first or are you inspired by your gameplay?
  4. Have you ever used a version of “yourself” in a story?
  5. Do you listen to music while writing / playing? If yes, what kind?
  6. What kind of books do you read and why?
  7. Which of your characters could be your roomie?
  8. Have you ever imagined getting your story published?
  9. Have you already cried while writing something particularly moving?
  10. Is there someone who reads your stories and who gives you feedback before publishing?
  11. Have you ever wanted to be like one of your characters?

*Sits back with a contended sigh*

  1. Congrats on your nomination! Really great answers and great questions you came up with, too 🙂 Thanks for thinking of me 🙂

    1. I hope you’ll be doing well with your exams! Maths is awesome and scary… And completely incomprehensible for me, who is an EFL teacher! So good luck, “break a leg” and “merde” and keep us updated on your progress! 🙂
I can relate to most of your answers, and you sure don’t have to worry about me throwing Danielle Steel books at you. However, there might just be an old Jackie Collins lying around collecting dusk in the bookcase somewhere! 😉

      1. That often like that in the sims community, you ignore you joined a circle of people who got the same interests than you are in simming.
        Ain’t this mad?

      2. xD we are so numerous to think of the same, to have the same tastes that’s mad.

  2. This is always a strong point to write about people from your own Experience because she is the best teacher of the world and maybe the best inspirational thing on this Earth.
I am kind of Selfish when I write something, it’s for my own but I am happy curious and crazy readers as you are dared to push the door lol and enjoy my world.
Thank you for nominated me I am very happy to received an award et encore bravo à vous/toi d’avoir été récompensée. C’est mérité !

  3. I loved you answers. I am an army brat, so I know where you are coming from.
Thank you so much for the nomination. You are just too kind. Life has been super crazy, but when things start to get normal again, I will have to write a response.

  4. Congrats on the award! I find your answer to number four interesting because even though I do the same thing, I find myself more exhausted than energized XD I also carry a notebook around! You never know when that sudden bout of inspiration will hit~ Your answers were fun to read 🙂
Thanks for thinking of me~ I’ve been nominated before but your questions look really cool so I’ll get around to answering them when I can!

    1. Thanks! I know that you had already been nominated, but I like your blog and thought better twice than none! I’m eager to see what you will answer, but, of course, take your time!
Question 4 was a hard one, as long as I write I’m not tired at all, but the long hours awake get their revenge later! That’s why I now restrain myself from writing during the weekdays – coming to work as a zombie isn’t really appreciated 😉 My daughter gets “panic attacks” when she doesn’t have her cell – I get them if I forget my notebook! That’s why I have written on supermarket receipts once in a while… :/

  5. Congratulations on your award! 😀
I don’t always carry a notebook with me unfortunately, but my cellphone’s “notebook” is filled with well… notes! 😀
I have found too that writing energizes me, but only when I reach the point when I am in “the zone” – which usually happens when I have already exhausted and pushed myself trying to write something, and having no inspiration whatsoever!
Your answers were very interesting to read! Congratulations again! 😀

  6. It’s quite interesting, that point about writing characters from the opposite gender. As you said, you are surrounded by men, and i’m pretty sure they all have distinct personalities, and behave differently in situations.

I came across male authors who were only able to write one type of female characters and all the ladies in the story were quite the same. Makes wonder whether they actually interact with real women at all 😀

    1. They probably interacted writing with their image of the female gender in their head! 😉 Some kind of ideal woman. Or some people just don’t bother digging deeper…
